Keep your computer Virus Free
Knowledge is key to keeping your system free from processor hungry and pesky Virus. After removing infections from my clients machines I provide the customer with information on how to keep their system secure and virus free. Over 60% of my clients don't even have Antivirus protection at all. There was a time when you could get away with this but today there are well over 100,000 known viruses, according to BBC News in a report published in 2004, because of the age of this report I am sure that this number has tippled by now.
- Make sure you keep your computer up to date with windows update
I have ran into countless machines that do not have Service Pack 2 installed which leaves the computer extremely vulnerable to attacks.
- Schedule Weekly Virus Scans
Be sure your AntiVirus definitions are up to date and schedule weekly scans of your hard drive. If you are using Symantec, Norton, or Mcafee for AntiVirus, you should know that most viruses can render these programs useless which keeps it from detecting infections. The best way to combat this is to use Norman Antivirus which is available for purchase.
- Switch to Mozilla Firefox
When visiting websites there is a good possibility that software is being installed into your computer without your knowledge. The best way to combat this is by getting to the root of the problem which in this case is Internet Explorer. Mozilla Firefox is free to download you can get it here.
The easiest way to prevent infection is by using common sense while surfing the Internet. Look out for websites that try to install software into your browser. Never approve software installation unless you know who the publisher is and you specifically requested for that software to be installed.
